steamers, and although the shortage of tonnage has become a serious matter, trade still goes on much as before.
The doctrine that the British could not carry on their trade without .German help seems to have been carefully inculcated amongst Germans trading in the Far East, as the writer remembers having several friendly discussions with Germans at different times on the reason so many Germans came out to trade in the Far East, and the theory that we would only be very small fry indeed without Teutonic assistance was often advanced in argument.
In the following pages it will be shown how false this theory has proved itself to be, for if the English have no reason to thank the Germans for their company, they have no reason to thank them either for meddling with and spoiling their trade in the selfish manner they have done.
